So, I’m into watches big time. Always been hooked on the whole watch collecting thing. It’s more than just having a bunch of watches. It’s about getting the hang of things and picking adequate watch for any attire.
Over the years, I’ve stumbled upon some essential terms that have enriched my experience in this hobby. Today, I’m excited to share my knowledge and experiences with you, using five commonly used terms related to watch collecting.
Watch Fitting
There’s this term I’ve always liked — ‘proper watch selection’. It’s all about finding a watch that fits your wrist just right.
According to some research, a watch should be about 20 to 30% of your measure of wrist circumference, you know? I bought this cute old watch once, but man, it was just too big for my wrist. Upon that instance I figured out how essential getting the right fit is. Now I always verify my measure of wrist circumference before I buy anything.
Watch Wearing Etiquette
There’s another important issue in the world of watches — ‘watch wearing etiquette’. It’s not just about putting a watch on; it’s about doing it correctly.
The Watchmakers Association says guys shouldn’t wear several watches at once. I’ve been doing this, and I feel like I look much better. And remember, you want a watch that goes with your clothes, not one that’s too striking.
Watch Maintenance
When it’s all about watches, maintenance is very important. Taking care of your watch? That can extend its lifespan.
The Horology Society says periodic service can extend the life of your mechanical watch last twice as long. I’ve been extremely careful with my watches, and the result is evident. I’ve had several of my watches for over a decade, and they’re still functioning well.
Watch Collecting
Alright, let’s talk around ‘watch collecting’. It’s an actual passion, you know? It can be a lifelong adventure.
The Watch Collectors Association states the average collector owns around 50 watches. I am quite proud to possess more than 30 watches in my collection. Every one owns its own story. Collecting watches owns taught me a lot and also makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something.
